Abstract

1,126,205. Switchboards; mounting switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 2 Nov., 1965 [24 Dec., 1964 (2)], No. 46437/65. Heading H1N. [Also in Division H2] A panelboard (Figs. 1, 2, not shown), comprises a planar base (101); a plurality of busbars (116), (117), (118) mounted insulatingly thereon and a plurality of plug contacts 54, 58 carried by the bus-bars, at least some of the plug contacts comprising a central blade portion 55 lying substantially normal to the plane of the base (101) and a plurality of cross blades 56 extending perpendicularly from either side of the central blade. The panelboard is intended to carry circuit-breakers of two different sizes, one of which is twice the width of the other. The wider breakers are provided with a spring blade socket contact 51 designed to engage with the central blade 55 so that the breaker casing straddles the contact while the narrow breakers are provided with a, socket contact 59 designed to engage one of the cross-blades 56. Thus one narrow breaker may be mounted on each side of a contact, the two narrow breakers occupying the same space as would a single wide breaker. The cross-blades 56 are provided with fins 62 at their outer ends to engage with slots or grooves in the socket contacts of the narrow breakers to prevent sideways movement thereof. In a modification (Figs. 13-17, not shown), the cross-blades are replaced by cylindrical rods (131-134). The panelboard will accept a double pole breaker with adjacent socket contacts engaging adjacent plug contacts (111), (112) connected to different phase bus-bars with an insulating shield located between them (Figs. 11, 18, not shown) or a three-pole breaker (Figs. 12, 19, not shown) in which the central pole must be of the wider size. Attachment of the breakers to the panelboard at the ends opposite to the socket contacts is by a hooked projection (129), (Fig. 2, not shown) of the base (101).
