Abstract

1,034,409. Automatic circuit breakers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Aug. 11, 1964 [Aug. 30, 1963], No. 32702/64. Heading H2B. A circuit breaker having a moulded insulating housing and a number of flat internal conductors 23, 99 connected with the fixed and moving contacts is provided with terminal connectors in the form of T-shaped brackets 91 bolted at 107 to the internal conductors and having their head portions located in openings 167, 168 in the housing. The brackets 91 can be mounted either parallel to the length of the casing or perpendicular thereto (Fig. 7, not shown). They are bored at 191 for bolting to bus bars. The circuit breaker is provided with a conventional snap-acting operating mechanism; a pivoted contact arm 31 with contacts 21, 27 separating in a detachable arc shoot 81 composed of an insulating casing with a plurality of magnetic steel plates 85; and a detachable trip unit 15 (Fig. 3, not shown) comprising, in an insulating housing 115, a magnetic core 125 surrounding the conductor 99 and attracting an armature 131 to move a trip bar 119 and release a latch 61; a further core 155 is provided with a shorted turn 161 heating a bimetal 159 also acting on the trip bar 119 which is common to three phases. Adjustment of the position of the backstop 143 of armature 131 is made by rotating a cam 141.
