Abstract

1,125,095. Modified mono-olefin polymers. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. 11 Feb., 1966 [8 March, 1965], No. 6198/66. Heading C3P. [Also in Division C5] An alkenyl succinic acid or anhydride thereof is reacted with urea or a derivative thereof and incorporated in a fuel or lubricating oil. The acid or anhydride may be of formula wherein R is an alkenyl radical, R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or an alkyl radical and R<SP>11</SP> is a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 or C 2 hydrocarbon radical. For instance R may be a polymer of a C 2 -C 6 monoolefin. In the embodiments described, polyisobutylene is reacted with maleic anhydride in the presence of benzoyl peroxide and the product obtained is reacted with urea or dimethylol urea. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,020,059 and 998,869.
