Abstract
1,125,091. Sulphur trioxide. STANTON & STAVELEY Ltd., J. B. WHEATCROFT, and A. B. WILLACY. 5 March, 1965 [5 Dec., 1963], No. 48175/63. Heading C1A. [Also in Divisions B8 and C3] Discrete portions of SO 3 are provided with a coating which is impervious to SO 3 vapour and atmospheric moisture and which disintegrates to permit the escape of SO 3 vapour when heated to a temperature, less than about 255‹ C., sufficient to cause vapourization of the SO 3 . The coating may disintegrate by sublimation, co nbustion or rupture of the coating material which may be sulphur, phthallio anhydride, tetrachlorophthalic anhydride, shellac modified by reaction with tetrachlorophthalic anhydride, a hydrogen polymer or a fluorinated and/or chlorinated hydrocarbon polymer. The SO 3 portions may be in the form of pellets of diameter about “ inch. The SO 3 pellets may be introduced into a waste gas stream where a mechanical separator and/or electrical precipitator are used, at a temperature sufficient to cause break up of the coating and consequently to precipitate a substantial portion of the dust particles.
