1,125,053. Measuring oxygen content of gases. BERGWERKSVERBAND G.m.b.H. Feb. 17, 1967, No. 7810/67. Addition to 1, 040, 707. Heading G1N Portable apparatus for determining the oxygen content of a gas of the type described in Specification 1, 040, 707 using the paramagnetism of oxygen, comprises a generally U-shaped flow path 5 through which gas flows as a result of a differential pressure arising when the oxygen content of the gas being tested differs from that of a comparison gas, and two centre-tapped resistors 6, 8 are disposed one in each of the parallel arms of the U-shaped path, the resistors being substantially identical and connected in a bridge circuit to compensate for the influence of lift and acceleration. Resistor 8 should be sufficiently spaced from resistor 6 for the gas to cool while flowing between the resistors. To remove errors arising from inaccuracies in the resistors 6, 8, by-pass channels (7a, 7b) having adjustable choke screws (12a, 12b) may be provided, Fig. 2 (not shown). An embodiment having two U-shaped paths connected in series and four flow sensitive resistances in all is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown), the resistances being connected in two bridge circuits whose outputs are summed. The features of Figs. 2 and 3 may be combined. Before reaching the ends of the U-shaped path, the comparison gas flows through capillaries 13a, 13b.
