Abstract

1,124,991. Fuse bases; two-part couplings. SQUARE D CO. 7 Sept., 1965 [23 Sept., 1964], No. 38243/65. Headings H2E and H2G. A cartridge fuse assembly comprises a casing housing a removable fuse-carrier, the casing having a pair of contact jaws 28c projecting outwardly from it, each jaw having a detent 28g (Fig. 6, not shown), which engages behind a bus-bar so that when the fuse carrier is removed, the casing itself remains attached to the bus-bar. The removable part comprises a frame 24 to which two double-ended contacts 46b and 46c, and 52b and 52c, are bolted. The ends 46b and 52b receive the conductive caps of the cartridge fuse, and the contacts 46c and 52c are formed as pairs of jaws which when the removable part is inserted in the casing engage contacts 32b and 28e, both of which are also formed as pairs of jaws. The spacing between jaws 32b is greater than the spacing between jaws 52c so that when the removable member is inserted turned through 180 degrees from its engagement position, jaws 52c pass through jaws 32b without making contact, and the removable part may be completely inserted in this orientation and make no electrical connections. A lamp 34 in series with a resistor and normally short-circuited by the fuse lights when the fuse blows. Contact is made from the lamp to the contacts engaging the end caps of the fuse by contacts 37 and 38 which engage the heads of bolts 48. The easing is formed of three plates held together by rivets 26, an assembly as described being sandwiched between each pair of adjacent plates. Mounting clips 30 enable the assembly to be held to a mounting rail of an electrical panelboard.
