Abstract
1,124,385. Motor sound unit. LOUIS MARX & CO. Ltd. 24 Oct., 1966 [30 March, 1966], No. 47604/66. Heading A6S. A motor sound unit for a toy comprises a frame and sounding board, a resilient striker carried in the frame, the striker having at least two fingers, the end portions of which are positioned near the sounding board, a shaft mounted rotatably in the frame and having positioned on it at least two multiple toothed cams, one cam being associated with each finger so that rotation of the cam bends the finger away from the board until the tooth and finger disengage enabling the latter to strike the sounding board. The unit is shown in Figure 3, and mounted above the rear axle of a vehicle in Figure 4. Referring to these diagrams, the propulsion unit 18, an electric motor for instance, drives the vehicle through a typical step-down gear train to which gear 46 is meshed. Hence motion of the vehicle causes counter-clockwise motion of 46 which is mounted on shaft 45. Also mounted on this shaft are two multilobed cams 47 and 48, each aligned to be engaged with the outer ends of the fingers 43 and 44 of the resilient striker 41. The other end of 41 is clamped to the frame unit. Motion of the vehicle will thus cause the fingers to be alternately engaged by the cam and released to impinge on the sounding board 38. Each cam may preferably have three teeth, as shown. The teeth are unequally spaced providing an unequal sound in operation, and teeth 47a and 48a are the only teeth in alignment between the two cams.
