In a coal mining installation a drum or disc type cutting machine is supported so that it may be adjusted when desired in accordance with mining conditions about a vertical axis from a saddle slidable along guide rails mounted at the face ends of the roof bars of a shiftable support frame. The machine is such that the drum or disc cutter thereof is rotatably supported at the free end of an arm that is swingable and lockable, preferably about an horizontal axis, with respect to the cutter-driving motor of the machine.
