Abstract

A liquid containing both dissolved and undissolved impurities is filtered in the presence of fibrous material modified to give it ion-exchange properties either by chemical treatment or by deposition of ion-exchange resin in or on the fibres, e.g. as described in Specification 1,123,909. The fibrous material may be deposited on a filter as a precoat by using some of the liquid to be treated as a vehicle.
