Abstract

Compositions suitable for preventing corrosion of zinc surfaces comprise a film-forming natural or synthetic polymer dissolved in an organic solvent, and rubeanic acid (dithiooxamide) in an amount up to 1% by weight of the solids content of the composition. The polymer may be an acrylic ester polymer, ethyl cellulose or a polyurethane, and the solvent may be a ketone or acetate. The compositions may also include additives such as pigments or extenders.ALSO:Surfaces of zinc or zinc-based alloys, including such surfaces applied to a base metal, are protected against corrosion by application of a solution in an organic solvent of a film-forming natural or synthetic polymer and up to 1% by weight of solids of rubeanic acid (dithio-oxamide) as a complexing agent for zinc.ALSO:Surfaces of zinc or zinc-based alloys, including such surfaces applied to a base metal, are treated for protection against corrosion by coating with a solution in an organic solvent of a film-forming natural or synthetic polymer and up to 1% by weight of solids of rubeanic acid (dithio-oxamide), as a complexing agent for zinc. The polymer may be an acrylic ester polymer, ethyl cellulose or a polyurethane. The solution may also contain a pigment or extender. Coating may be effected by spraying.
