Abstract

1,123,613. Furniture joints. S.T.D. SERVICES Ltd. 1 Nov., 1965 [30 Oct., 1964; 1 Dec., 1964], Nos. 44296/64 and 48710/64. Heading A4H. [Also in Division F2] Tube jointing means for tubes of square cross-section comprises four resilient pins 11 arranged in spaced parallel relationship and supported proud of the surface of a body 10 so that the said body can be coupled to a tube 12 which compresses the pins against the body. The body 10 is a tube with longitudinal indentations to locate the pins. The ends of the pins are tapered. A second tube as at 12 can be inserted over the portion of the assembly shown protruding in Fig. 1 to form a butt joint. Alternatively a short length of tube as at 12 can be located over the centre portion only of the pins and the tubes to be joined may be affixed to the portions of the assembly which protrude at either end thereof. The portion 12 may form one end of an elbow or of a three-way joint having its other ends similar to the assembly shown in Fig. 1. Alternatively to the tubular body 10 the body may be in the form of a solid bar of generally rectangular cross-section but with its longitudinal edges substituted by grooves to accommodate the resilient pins.
