Abstract

1,123,603. Blackboards. PILKINGTON BROS. Ltd., and J. W. NIGHTINGALE. 13 Sept., 1966 [21 Sept., 1965], No. 40214/65. Heading B6P. [Also in Division G2] Apparatus for use as a blackboard comprises a panel 1 of transparent material and a backing 5 of opaque material, the writing face 6 of the panel being rendered diffuse reflecting e.g. by stippling, and the reverse face 7 being roughened e.g. by sandblasting, to prevent formation of a secondary image when information is written on the surface 6. The backing 5 may consist of an opaque coating or may be a separate element with e.g. graph-paper markings thereon. If a separate backing 5 is employed, it may be longer than the panel 1 and contain parts with different markings thereon, so that by sliding the backing 5 relatively to the panel, a different background marking can be effected. For this purpose, the backing 5 may be wound on rollers. The panel 1 may be of toughened glass or transparent plastic. The parts 1,5 5 may be held in a frame 2 by removable strips 3 and interposed strips 4 of sponge rubber. The device may be used as a screen for a projector if the backing 5 includes a white pigment.
