Abstract

Rot-proof roofing felt, rag board or felted woollen board is produced by adding a fungicide, such as sodium pentachlorophenoxide to the pulp, and adjusting its pH to between 4.2 and 4.8 by adding aluminium sulphate. The preferred pH value is 4.5, and 1% by weight of the pulp of sodium pentachlorophenoxide may be added. The utilisation of fungicide is 50% to 70% on the fibres, and the absorption is in excess of 90%.
