Sewing machine is provided with sheet material delivering oscillating gripper mechanism having a base mounted on a working table 1 on which the sheet material is deposited in edge-abutting or overhanging relationship with respect to a bracket 3. Base 2 receives pivotally a bell-crank 16 the arm 21 of which carries a gripper arm 32 supporting a rotatable shaft 41 and a fixed shaft 43 on which are mounted fixedly respective gripper jaws 42, 44. Rotatable shaft 41 is attached to a bracket 38 operated by an air cylinder 34 to open or close the gripper jaws which in the sheet engaging position enter slots 4 of the bracket 3. Gripper jaws 44 may be provided with sheet material edge-abutting guides 61, Fig. 6 (not shown), which are omitted when the sheet material is overhanging the bracket 3 and is gripped by the jaws intermediate its surface to be folded by the grippers when the sheet material is delivered to a stack. Gripper mechanism is operated by an air cylinder 6 attached to an arm 18 of the bell-crank 16 to oscillate the gripper jaws between the working table 1 and a stack (not shown) the gripper jaws 42 being operated in timed relationship with the movement of the arm 21 by their associated air cylinder 34. Adjustment of the stroke of the arm 21 is effected by a turn-buckle 28, Fig. 2 (not shown), on a radius rod 23 or by a ball joint 30 articulated to a drilled lever 29 which in turn is adjustable by pivotal mounting in a quadrant 35. The gripper arm length is varied by sliding the arm 32 in a boss 33 of the quadrant 35.
