1,123,343. Fault Indicating. BRUCE PEEBLES INDUSTRIES Ltd. and D.J,A. CARSWELL. July 26. 1965 [July 24, 1964], No.29774/64. Heading G1U. A detecting device for picking up R. F. fields caused by sparking in an electrical machine includes a pick-up device such as an aerial 1 which is inserted into the carcase 3 of the machine under test and has its output fed in a screened cable 4 to a detector unit comprising a stepped attenuator 5 followed by a tuned R. F. amplifier 6 and R. F. detector 7. The detector 7 is sensitive to a relatively narrow band-width arranged about a frequency of 1 Mc/s. The amplified output of detection 7 is fed to a built-in band-speaker 8 and microammeter display 9. The aerial may be fitted on a transformer or rotating electrical machine such as a squirrel cage induction motor, or other electrical equipment which does not normally generate sparks. The operation of the circuit may be checked with a neon relaxation circuit 12 or a multivibrator.
