Abstract

[Also in Division G3] A manually operated spool valve includes a spool 18 movable in opposite directions from the neutral position shown, against a spring 26, to connect inlet 12 selectively with one of two work ports 16, 17, and the other work. port is exhausted through a transfer passage (14), Fig. 2 (not shown), and exhaust port 12. The spool is positively held in each operated position by a ball 32 engaging grooves 22, 24. The ball is loaded by a spring-biased piston 29. When the delivery pressure exceeds a predetermined valve, a pilot relief valve 33 communicating with an inlet transfer passage 13 opens and the pressure lifts the piston 29 from the ball so that the spool is returned automatically to neutral. The piston chamber 31 is drained through a restriction (36), Fig. 2, to a connection 15 which intersects the chamber housing the spring 26. Two or more such valves may be mounted together so that ports 11, 12 and connection 15 in one valve match with ports (41, 42, 43), Fig. 2 (not shown), in another. The relief valve 33 is omitted from all but one of the valves.
