Abstract

1,121,851. Pipe joints. HIGH TEMPERATURE ENGINEERS Ltd. 28 July, 1965 [28 April, 1964], No. 17644/64. Heading F2G. A pipe fitting assembly comprises a pipe fitting 1 having a bore receiving the end of a pipe 2, which pipe end is deformed to expand into one or more annular depressions 5<SP>1</SP> and 6<SP>1</SP> provided in the pipe fitting bore, a packing ring 7 located in the or each depression formed in the internal wall of the pipe end by its expansion into the fitting, and a sleeve 8 inserted into the pipe to clamp the or each ring against the pipe wall. The pipe end is expanded into the depressions formed in the fitting by the insertion of a rubber bung in the pipe end, the bung being subsequently axially compressed by means including an hydraulic jack. The depressions may have a radial depth of 0À015 inch and may be spaced 0À5 inch apart. The sleeve 8 is retained in the pipe end by a circlip 8 which holds a flange on the sleeve against a pipe stop shoulder on the fitting. The pipe fitting and pipe may be of stainless steel.
