Abstract

1,121,718. Microphones. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 21 June, 1966, No. 27601/66. Heading H4J. A microphone includes an electroacoustic transducer unit 1 suspended in a hollow casing 2 by two spaced resilient members 3 and 4 each attached to the inside of the casing 2 and to the transducer unit 1, the members 3 and 4 insulating the unit 1 from mechanical vibration and shock and providing acoustically isolating internal walls in the casing 2. The casing 2 is preferably of circular section and each member 3 and 4 is a flat annulus. Members 3 and 4 are of rubber or plastics. Bolts 5, 8 and 12, 13 secure the members 3 and 4. The transducer unit 1 is a moving coil unit comprising a magnet and a, diaphragm 16. A wind and breath shield comprises an inner fine gauze 17 and an outer coarse gauze 18. The members 3 and 4 define a phase-changing chamber 20. Apertures 21 are covered internally with acoustic resistance material 22. A bass equalizing tube 23 leads inwardly from a side aperture 24 in the casing 2. A bass chamber 25 is connected to the rear of the diaphragm 16 by a tube 28, which may contain acoustic resistance material. The rear end of chamber 25 is closed by a transformer 26 and a connecting plug 27.
