Abstract

Water-soluble phthalocyanine dyes of general formula <FORM:1121711/C4-C5/1> in which Pc is a metal-free or metal-containing phthalocyanine nucleus which may contain further substituents, B is a direct linkage or a bivalent organic radical, R1 and R2 each represent a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl radical which may be the same or different or together with the nitrogen atom form a ring system, R3 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group which together with the nitrogen atom and the organic radical B may form a heterocyclic ring system, R4 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical which may be substituted, X is a group of formula -CH2-CH2-Z in which Z is the radical of a mono or polybasic inorganic or organic acid capable of being split off as an anion or a group of formula -CH = CH2, a, b and c each stand for a number 1-3, the sum of which is at most 5, with the proviso that when c = 1 the molecule must contain groups imparting solubility in water, n is 1 or 2 and the benzene nucleus A may contain further substituents or represents a part of a polynuclear condensed ring system are prepared by condensing a phthalocyanine sulphonic acid chloride with an amine of general formula <FORM:1121711/C4-C5/2> in which X may also represent -CH2CH2-OH, and with an amine of formula HNR1R2, if desired with simultaneous or subsequent saponification of some of the sulphonic acid chloride groups to sulphonic acid groups and (a) isolating a dyestuff which contains a group of formula -CH = CH2, or (b) isolating a dye containing a group -CH2-CH2-Z or converting said dye into a dye having a group -CH = CH2 by treating with an acid binding agent, or (c) converting a dye containing a group -CH2CH2-OH into a dye having a group -CH2-CH2-Z and isolating the dye or converting it into a dye containing a group -CH = CH2 by treating with an acid binding agent. The condensation reactions may be effected in aqueous or non-aqueous media in presence of acid-binding agents at temperatures of - 5 DEG C. to 100 DEG C. Turquoise blue shades are obtained.
