Abstract
112,137. Watson, W. M. Oct. 23, 1916. Feeding-appliances for animals. - Relates to poultry &c. feeding devices of the kind in which the food is released automatically after a predetermined time, and comprises an arrangement in which the food receptacle is released by the overbalancing of a pivoted trough into which water or sand is allowed to flow at a regulated rate. As shown in Fig. 1, the food hopper f, hinged at g<1>, is released and its contents discharged, when the trough a in overbalancing, strikes the catch lever h. The trough a is pivoted on trunnions b in a casing -, beneath a reservoir d from which water &c. drips at a regulated rate through a passage e. The water &c. discharged into the bottom of the casing when the trough over-balances, may be used again. or may serve to replenish a drinking trough. Instead of the pivoted catch h, a double-headed pin sliding in keyhole slots may be provided. A modification is described in which the food receptacle is arranged beneath the casing c and the retaining- pin passes through the floor, being retracted by a lug on the bottom of the trough when this overbalances. A series of such devices as shown in Fig. 1 may be arranged one above the other, the water &c. passing through each in turn. A lamp may be provided to keep the food warm and to prevent freezing.
