Abstract
A process as claimed in claim 1 of the parent Specification 1,121,279, wherein part of the waste gases accumulating after the reaction is returned, after separation of the solid oxide, to the reaction zone as the gas which is inert to combustion. The waste gases may be recycled to the reaction zone before or after passage through a hydrohalic acid absorption system. When hydrogen is used as the flammable gas an excess of 19% may be used in the process in order to combine with the atmospheric oxygen entering the system through leaks.
