Abstract
Metals capable of forming phthalocyanines i.e. Fe, Co, Cu, V, Mu, Zu, Ti, Hf, Sn, Pb, Nb, Ta, Sb, Bi, Cr, Mo, Ni, Pt, Pd, Ag and Hg are associated with a carrier material as either metals, oxides or salts before reacting with more than 1% phthalonitrile or a precursor therefor at 175-325 DEG C to yield supported metallic phthalocyanine catalysts. Specified carriers are carbon, diatomaceous earth, fuller's earth, Kieselguhr, Kaolin, Al2O3, SiO2, ZrO2, ThO2, B2O3, SiO2-Al2O3, SiO2-ZrO2 and Al2O3-ZrO2. Examples describe the preparations of Cu, Co and V phthalocyanines supported on either Al2O3 or C.
