Abstract
Acrylic acid or methacrylic acid are obtained from acrolein and methacrolein, respectively, and molecular oxygen at 200 to 600 DEG C in the presence of a catalyst. This catalyst contains essentially tungsten, phosphorus, vanadium, molybdenum and oxygen, but can also additionally contain tin, antimony, arsenic, copper, cerium, boron, chromium, iron, nickel, cobalt, uranium, manganese, silver, rubidium, rhodium, cadmium, bismuth, indium, zinc or lanthane. The use of the abovementioned metal catalyst results in an increase in yield.
