Abstract

[Also in Division H1] Wafers 2 of semi-conducting material, e.g. Si, having an electrode region on each face, are separated by discs 3 of a noble metal such as Ag, and the stack so formed is enclosed in an insulating envelope of plastics material, e.g. silicone rubber. The assembly is formed in a mould 1 into which the plastics material is injected through an aperture 5 while the stack is compressed axially. When the plastics has hardened sufficiently, if necessary by the application of heat, the assembly is removed from the mould and rotated about its longitudinal axis to produce a uniform envelope (6), Fig. 2 (not shown). The stack is then divided along lines (X) to provide individual elements.
