Abstract

1,119,195. Making hollow-ware; welding by pressure. DARCHEM ENG. Ltd. 11 April, 1967 [5 May, 1966], No. 19938/66. Headings B3A and B3R. A composite supporting strip for securing a titanium lining 8 to a backing member 1 of a metal other than titanium comprises a strip of apertured stainless steel 2 which is sandwiched between a strip of titanium 6 and a number of titanium buttons 5 which project through the apertures 4 in the stainless steel strip for welding to the titanium strip. The lining 8 is spot or seam-welded to the strip 6 and may have a butt-weld 10 between the edges of adjacent sections of the lining. The stainless steel strip 2 has joggled edges which are welded to the backing member 1. The buttons are round, square or triangular and may be individual components or may be formed in groups of two or more in strips which extend parallel or transverse to the joint between the lining sections.
