[Also in Divisions F4, G2 and G5] An incandescent lamp bulb 8 is mounted inside a ball point pen, the circuit to the bulb being so arranged as to be closed during writing and opened when the pen is at rest, by the up and down movement of the refill. The pen comprises a tapered front section A threaded at 3 to receive the rear section B and having a transverse collar 4 supporting a sleeve 5, at the base of the thread. The bulb 8 is screwed into the top of the sleeve 5, which encloses a battery 6, one terminal of which engages the base of the bulb. The refill 2 carries a metallic head 12 which is brought into contact with the opposite terminal of the battery when the refill is pressed inwards against the action of a spring 13 between the collar 4 and a disc 14 on the refill. A wire 15 connects the shell of the bulb with a sleeve 10 on the collar having a coating of conducting material which completes the circuit through the head 12. The section B is transparent and may carry designs or advertizing matter. It may be closed by a cap 16, also of transparent material. In a modification, the section B is opaque and houses a projection system comprising a parabolic reflector for the bulb, a plano-convex lens, a transparency and a biconvex lens in a ring which can be screwed in and out of the upper end.
