Abstract

The invention comprises monoazo dyes of the formula <FORM:1117476/C4-C5/1> wherein R represents an unsubstituted C1-C8 alkyl group which may be branched and R1 represents an unsubstituted C1-C5 alkyl group or an allyl group. They may be obtained by conventional diazotization and coupling procedures. Examples are given for the production of the dyes. They are useful for dyeing polyester and cellulose triacetate fibres.ALSO:Compounds of the formula <FORM:1117476/C2/1> wherein R represents an unsubstituted C1-C8 alkyl group which may be branched and R1 represents an unsubstituted C1-C5 alkyl group are obtained by heating under reflux a mole of N-alkyl-m-chloraniline with a slight excess of an acrylic ester in the presence of acetic acid. An example is given for the production of the ethyl ester of N-ethyl-N-m-chlorophenylamino-propionic acid.
