Abstract

111,710. Edwards, F. W., and Edwards, E. D. Dec. 6, 1916. Composite springs. - The rear ends of the rear side leaf-springs of a vehicle are shackled to the ends of quarter-elliptic springs 5, Fig. 1, carried by bell-crank levers, the arms 6 of which are fitted with adjustable slides 8 connected to springs 14 separated by a fixed or floating disk 15. Sleeves 19, slidable on a rod 20 against the action of rebound springs 21, are also provided. If desired, the springs 5 may be bent to form levers, and the arms 6 may point downwards instead of upwards. In a modification, bell-crank levers 68, Fig. 5, carrying the quarter-elliptic springs, are pivoted to rods 65 passing through separately mounted springs 64. In another arrangement, the bell-crank levers are connected through springs 85, Fig. 6. with a member 84 slidable against a spring 88.
