Abstract
1,116,910. Collapsible tubes. AMERICAN CAN CO. 16 April, 1966, No. 16759/66. Heading B8D. [Also in Division B5] A laminated collapsible tube having a longitudinally extending side seam has a thermoplastic headpiece 16 having a portion 29 which laps down inside the tube and is fused to the inner layer 26 of the laminated tubular body, which laminate comprises the inner layer 26 bonded to a metal foil 22 by a bonding layer 24, a similar layer 24a bonding a fibre layer 38 to the other side of the metal foil, and a transparent resin layer 40 overlying the fibre layer. Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), the fibre layer 38 is replaced by an opaque polyethylene layer (42), and indicia (44) marked on the opaque layer. The resin layer may be omitted, Fig. 4 (not shown). Again, Fig. 5 (not shown), the indicia may be formed directly on the metal foil and covered by the resin layer 40, layers 24a, (42) being omitted. As an alternative, Fig. 6 (not shown), the opaque layer (42) may be omitted from the Fig. 3 embodiment. In a final embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), the opaque layer (42), with indicia (44) formed thereon, is inserted between the fibre layer 38 and clear resin layer 40 of the Fig. 2 embodiment. The layers 26, 40, (42) are preferably polyolefins e.g. polyethylene, the layer 38 a paper, the bonding layers 24, 24a, a copolymer of ethylene and either an acrylic acid or an acrylic acid ester, and the metal foil preferably aluminium, steel or tin plate.
