Abstract

1,116,632. Escapements. CHANDLER EVANS Inc. 12 Oct., 1965, No. 43301/65. Heading F2X. [Also in Division G3] An escapement mechanism controlling the movement of a servomotor control valve 16 (see Division G3) comprises a toothed wheel 54 fixed to a threaded spindle 51 which co-operates with a ball nut 50. The nut 50 is carried by a piston 32 having lugs 48 slidable in slots 47 to prevent rotation of the nut. The piston 32 is connected to the valve 16 which is also fixed to a smaller piston 19 subjected to a constant fluid load in the downward direction. A solenoid valve 41 controls the supply and exhaust of fluid to a chamber 31 whereby the nett force on the valve is upwards or downwards depending on whether the chamber 31 is connected to supply or exhaust. A spring loaded lever 58 co-operates with the teeth 55 of wheel 54, the lever being rocked by pulses from a computer fed to a solenoid 61 whereby the wheel is turned one tooth distance in response to the pulse, the direction of movement depending on the nett force of the fluid load and thus the valve 16 is moved upwards or downwards one increment with the pulse.
