Printing-surfaces.- An absolute printing- roller comprises a porous supporting layer (3) of strong textile fabrics, and a gelatine printing layer which is applied to and absorbed by the supporting layer, developed, and washed out in the image areas (6). Ink may be applied from outside the roller, or from a central bore (7) through radial perforations (8) to axial grooves (10). Inking-apparatus.- An ink container 11 contains an agitator 12, and ink is forced therefrom through a filter 13 and a tube 16 by a pump 14 into a vessel 15, whence it passes by gravity through a flexible pipe 17 and a valve 20 and head 18 to the interior of the absorbent printing-roller 1. The height of the vessel 15 is adjustable. Surplus ink flows through a pipe 19 to the container 11, thus maintaining a constant ink-level.
