Abstract

1,116,102. Interrogating system for subscription television receivers. ZENITH RADIO CORPORATION. 30 June, 1965 [1 July, 1964], No. 27800/65. Heading G4H. A plurality of subscription television receivers are interrogated by a central station and send sequential reply pulses if they are switched on. The timing mechanism for the reply pulses comprises two switching cams 115, 116 (Fig. 2), with conductive segments 183, 184, the positioning of these segments being unique for each receiver. When a subscriber depresses a pushbutton 106, the motor is switched on and cams 115, 116 are rotated from the reference position shown until levers 131, 135 engage grooves 128, 139. A radio frequency converter 90 is simultaneously enabled so that a television programme from the central station is passed to a receiver 92, the interrogating pulse J being passed to a relay 181, which rotates levers 131, 135 to release the cams. When both the conductive segments fall between reply contacts 185, 186, and 187, 188 a reply pulse is sent to the central station where it energizes a punch magnet 64 (Fig. 1) in a tape punch 24 and illuminates a light 65. The tape punch is advanced between each reply pulse by a pulse generator 20 which also lights up a visual count display 28 to indicate which receiver is replying. If the reply pulse does not fall between two output pulses from the generator the receiver is disabled.
