1,115,989. Inserting self-tapping screws. G.K.N. SCREWS & FASTENERS Ltd. 5 Nov., 1965 [27 Oct., 1965], No. 46900/65. Heading B3N. A method of inserting a succession of identical self-tapping screws into a sheet metal workpiece comprises engaging each screw with a screwdriver, producing an axial impact on the screw by the driver to pierce the work, and then rotating the screw to thus screw it into the work. Each screw may comprise a hardened two-start thread 14 of full form, a tapered threaded portion 13, and a piercing point 12 of pyramidal form.
