Abstract
Phosphorus is removed from iron ore by crushing the ore to 50 to 400 m , treating with 0.05 to 1% aqueous H2SO4, regenerating the treating solution with a cation-exchange resin, such as resins with a polystyrene base, operating in accordance with a hydrogen cycle, and recycling the solution. In the regeneration, CaSO4 and Ca(H2PO4)2 are converted into H2SO4 and H3PO4 resp., and the H3PO4 is recovered in subsequent washing of the ore.
