Abstract

1,115,193. Screw; nuts; washers. HI SHEAR CORPORATION. 8 June, 1965, No. 24239/65. Heading F2H. [Also in Division B4] A driving connection between two elements with their axes aligned, e.g. a screw and driver, comprises a recess in one element having a plurality of flutes 19, each bounded by side walls 17, which lie in planes that are substantially parallel to the axes, and by an outer wall 20, inclined to the axes, which intersects a bottom wall 23, at a position radially outwards from an innermost point 14 of an adjacent projection 12, and complementary blades (38), Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), in the other element. A washer (7), Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), coated with a dry lubricant, e.g. wax or molybdenum disulphide, may be disposed beneath the screw head to provide a predictable coefficient of friction between the screw and workpiece to aid the control of the axial prestress of the screw. The recess or blades may be formed on a nut, pin, or cap.
