Abstract
Water-insoluble dyestuffs having the general formula <FORM:1114603/C4-C5/1> wherein D1 is a benzene radical which may be substituted but not by carboxylic or sulphonic acid groups; R is cyanomethyl, cyanoethyl, cyanopropyl, cyanobutyl or <FORM:1114603/C4-C5/2> wherein A is -CH2- or an ethylene radical; A1 is C1-C4 alkylene; X1 is acyloxy and benzene ring E may contain further substituents other than carboxylic and sulphonic acid groups, are prepared by diazotization and coupling in a Patent of Addition to Specification 909,843. Preferred dyes have the general formula <FORM:1114603/C4-C5/3> wherein V1 is H1NO2, Cl or Br; V2 is CN or NO2; V3 is H, CN, NO2, Cl, Br, CF3, C1-C4 alkylsulphonyl, or carbo (C1-C4) alkoxy; E1 is H or C1-C4 alkoxy; E2 is H, C1-C4 alkyl or alkoxy, Cl, Br, acetyl- or propionyl-amino; R1 is CNC2H4-, or -CH2CH2COOCH2CH2OCOZ2 and Z2 is C1-C4 alkyl.ALSO:N - (b - Cyanoethyl) - N - [b - (b 1 - acetoxy -ethoxycarbonyl)-ethyl] aniline is prepared by reacting N-(b -cyanoethyl) aniline at 60 DEG C. with acrylic acid, esterifying the product with excess ethylene glycol to give N-(b -cyanoethyl) -N-[b -(b 1-hydroxyethoxycarbonyl) ethyl] anilene and reacting this product with acetic anhydride to acetylate the b 1-hydroxy group.
