Abstract
Novel compounds of formula <FORM:1114580/C2/1> in which each of R1 and R2 is an alkyl radical having 1-4 carbon atoms, or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom signify a 1-pyrrolidinyl or 1-piperidinyl radical, and their acid addition salts, are prepared by splitting off the elements of water from the corresponding 4 - hydroxy - 4 - (2 - aminoethyl) - 9,10 - dihydro - 4H - benzo[4,5]cyclohepta - [1,2-b]thiophene, followed, if desired, by separation into its stereoisomeric forms and/or salification. The 4 - hydroxy - 4(2 - aminoethyl) - 9,10 - dihydro - 4H - benzo[4,5]cyclohepta[1,2-b]thiophene starting materials may be produced by reacting 9,10 - dihydro - 4H - benzo[4,5]cyclohepta-[1,2-b]thiophen-4-one with CH3CONR1R2 in the presence of an alkali metal amide or hydride and reducing the resultant 4-hydroxy-4(amino-carbonylmethyl) -9,10 - dihydro - 4H - benzo[4,5]-cyclohepta [1,2-b]thiophene with a metal hydride known to reduce an amide radical to an amine radical. Therapeutic compositions useful in the treatment of neurotic and psychotic disorders and which may be administered enterally or parenterally contain as active ingredient a compound of Formula I above or a physiologically acceptable acid addition salt thereof.
