Abstract
1,114,483. R.F. couplings; dielectric heating apparatus. YOUNG BROS. CO. 21 July, 1965 [27 July, 1964], No. 31043/65. Headings H4A and HSH. [Also in Division F4] Webs of paper P or the like dielectric material are dried by passage above a dielectric heating apparatus comprising a series of transversely mounted horizontal electrodes 40, 44 alternately electrically connected and earthed, the whole apparatus being adapted to be vertically adjusted relative to the web. The electrodes 44 are mounted on a fixed capacitor plate 42 which is capacitively connected to a movable capacitor plate 46 vertically adjustably mounted and actuated by an R.F. generator (not shown) with an external tank circuit through a tuning stub 50 and flexible connector strap 48. Movement of the plate 46 varies the voltage induced in the fixed plate 42 and thus varies the strength of the electrical field between adjacent electrodes 40, 44 and the amount of heat generated in the web of dielectric material.
