Abstract
1,114,431. Fuel cells. PROTOTECH Inc. 3 June, 1965 [22 June, 1964], No. 23784/65. Heading H1B. A fuel cell comprising an anhydrous electrolyte of potassium hydroxide, rubidium hydroxide and/or caesium hydroxide containing an alkali metal peroxide and/or superoxide as the oxidant. The peroxide and/or superoxide is formed in situ by the action of atmospheric oxygen. The electrolyte is maintained anhydrous by operation in the temperature range 300-600‹ C. The cathode may be corrugated and made from nickel, gold, platinum, cobalt, iron or aluminium. The cell container may be of aluminium. The electrolyte is agitated in the region of the cathode by vibrating the cathode, stirring, or blowing air into the electrolyte.
