Abstract

1,114,315. Delivering cigarettes in orderly arrangement. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd., and T. ROWLANDS 17 March, 1966 [19 March, 1965], No. 11750/65. Heading A2C. In apparatus for forming a single row of transversely moving cigarettes from two side rows on two conveyers a plough is provided which pushes the cigarettes of one row into the gaps between cigarettes of the other row. Two rows of cigarettes C having mouthpieces M are conveyed on conveyers 1 and 2. The cigarettes on the conveyer 2 are reversed end for end by a device 13 as described in Specification 900,387 and delivered to a conveyer 15. The cigarettes on the conveyer 1 are delivered to flutes 19 of a chain conveyer 14. The conveyer also has alternate flutes 20 having relieved entries to receive cigarettes pushed axially from the conveyer 15. The conveyer 15 comprises links 21 each having a concave surface (27), Fig. 2 (not shown), and a sloped ramp (28) such that a flute is formed between the surface (27) and ramp (28) into which a cigarette rolls after delivery by the device 13. The cigarettes on the conveyer 15 thus become aligned with the flutes 20 of the conveyer 14. Elongated slots 30 in the ramps (28) communicate with a suction chamber 31 in the region where cigarettes are pushed axially by a plough 35 into the flutes 20 of conveyer 14. Short subsidiary flutes 33 are provided at the ends of each link 21 to aid in supporting the cigarettes on the conveyer 14 until transfer of the row to two further chain link conveyers 37 and 38.
