Abstract

1,113,733. Protective systems. STARKSTROM - ANLAGENBAU ERFURT VEB. 3 Aug., 1966, No. 34810/66. Heading H2K. An overload protective arrangement comprises a transistor 6 having its base connected to a potential divider formed by resistors 10, 101 connected across the supply conductors, and its emitter connected through a diode 8 to a reference output terminal Mp. The emitter is also connected through a Zener diode 7 to the coil 1 of a relay. In the event of excess current in the positive conductor or a shortcircuit between that conductor and the terminal Mp, the voltage drop across a resistor 5 in the positive conductor causes the base of the transistor to go negative with respect to the emitter so that the transistor conducts. The coil 1 of the relay is now sufficiently energized for it to open contacts to disconnect the supply and to close contacts to complete a holding circuit for the relay coil and an indicating circuit. Should a short-circuit occur between the negative conductor and the terminal Mp, sufficient current flows through the diodes 7 and 8 to operate the relay.
