Abstract

Racemic and optically active compounds of the general formula <FORM:1112839/C2/1> (wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1- 3 alkyl group, R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1- 4 alkyl group, R3 represents a halogen atom and R4 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom) and their acid addition salts are prepared by standard methods, e.g. (a) catalytic hydrogenation of a ketone of the general formula <FORM:1112839/C2/2> in the presence of R2NH2, or (b) reduction of an oxime of the general formula <FORM:1112839/C2/3> optionally followed by alkylation of the amino group, either process being followed by salt formation and/or resolution if desired.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions in dosage unit form suitable for oral administration contain one or more acemic or optically active compounds of the general formula <FORM:1112839/A5-A6/1> (wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-3 alkyl group, R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 alkyl group, R3 represents a halogen atom and R4 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom) and/or non-toxic acid addition salts thereof, as active ingredients in association with a pharmaceutical carrier or excipient, each dosage unit containing 10-150 mg. of the active ingredient. Preferred compositions take the form of capsules, tablets or drag<\>aees. The active ingredients are anorectics.
