Abstract
1,112,520. Grinding. E. GEDYE. 23 March, 1967 [28 March, 1966], No. 13820/67. Heading B3D. A machine for grinding the outer surface of a cylindrical bushing 11 having a central bore comprises a grinding member 23, such as a wheel or belt; having a grinding surface 24, a cylindrical arbor 30 for rotatably supporting the bushing, an endless driving belt 50 for engaging the bushing so that it is rotated and presented to the grinding surface, bracket members 33, 34 for supporting the ends of the arbor, and adjusting means 29 for changing the spacing between the grinding surface and bracket members to thereby determine the final diameter of the bushing. The grinding member may be an abrasive belt or, as described, a grinding wheel the plane or peripheral surface of which is used and is driven by a motor 21 carried by a slide 27 adjustable by a vernier 29 and screw 28 relative to a base 20. The base adjustably carries the brackets 33, 34 which are formed with grooves 41, 42 for receiving the ends of the arbor 30 on which the bushing is mounted. The bushing is rotated, and urged against the grinding wheel, by the belt 50 driven by a motor 57. The bushing may be fitted with a predetermined clearance on the arbor or be a snug fit on the arbor, the ends of which then have an initial clearance with the grooves 41, 42, and grinding is effected until the clearance is taken up, the grinding wheel being advanced continuously or in increments.
