Abstract

1,112,426. Containers packed in trays; opening containers. COW & GATE Ltd. 13 Sept., 1965 [14 Sept., 1964; 30 Dec., 1964], Nos. 37452/64 and 52790/64. Headings B8C, B8D and B8P. Recesses 11 (Fig. 1) in a tray frictionally grip thin-walled plastics containers 5, and a cover is then applied across the top of the tray to protect the closure membranes 9 of the containers. The cover may be formed by the top wall of a box into which the tray is slid, and this wall may have inspection windows. Alternatively the tray may be enclosed in a cardboard sleeve or in a heat-shrunk wrapper, which may hold in place a cardboard sheet. The closure membranes 9 of the containers are of metal foil heat-sealed in place with a portion adjacent the pouring lip 8 unsecured to form a tab for removal. Both the containers 6 and the tray may be vacuum- or blow-moulded from plastics.
