Abstract

1,112,412. Measuring density. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE-GESELLSCHAFT. April 14, 1965 [ April 17, 1964], No. 15965/65. Heading G1S. Apparatus for carrying out the continuous measurement of the bulk density of flowable materials comprises a weighing pipe 4 interposed between a hopper 1 and outlet conduit 5, the weighing pipe 4 being movable axially and connected to a weighing device, the outlet pipe 5 having a choke 12. The weight of the pipe 4 is detected on a balance 3 through arm 4a. A measuring device is provided at 6 to weigh required quantities after density measurements have been taken and discharge each amount into receptacles 9 carried by a conveyer belt. In operation, the density of the material is detected by measuring the force exerted by a constant quantity of material filling the pipe 4, upon the balance 3. In a modification, the pipe 2 is connected through a bellows to the hopper 1 to permit axial movement of tube 2 within the periphery of tube 4 to alter the effective volume of the tube 4. The density measurements may be used to control a production unit 7.
