Printing-apparatus; contact printing-frames.- A contact printing-frame is provided with a shutter which, when manually opened, is automatically locked in the open position and released after a predetermined interval by clockwork. The frame 1, Figs. 1 and 2, is formed with a box-like extension 15 for the mechanism and is provided with a one-piece removable back 9 held in place by a. centrally pivoted spring strip 10 engaging catches 11, 12. Finger notches 13, 14 are formed on the frame. The sliding shutter 19, Figs. 1 and 6, is pivotally connected to a lever 69 which is connected to a record lever 61 and is provided at its free end with a roller 73 engaging a slot 31 in the upper plate 24 of the clockwork mechanism. The lever 61 is secured to a gear-wheel 63, Fig. 6, which may be turned so as to open the shutter by a partial gear 65 connected to a push button 76. The shutter is held open by a forked lever 79 engaging a pin 80 on the lever 61 and is released, after an interval determined by the position in which the pointer 45, Fig. 2, is set, by means of clockwork operating through clutch members 48, 49 mounted on co-axial spindles 42, 44, Fig. 10, notched controlling disk 50, pin 81<2>, and a series of spring-controlled levers and catches shown in Fig. 6. The setting-pointer 45 is locked against movement whilst the shutter is open by means of a dog which is caused to engage the teeth of a wheel 46 on the clutch spindle 42.
