Abstract
1,112,103. Shovel excavators. D. H. NORRIS. 17 March, 1966 [23 Dec., 1964; 29 Jan., 1965], Nos. 52246/64 and 3981/65. Heading E1F. On the shovel-carrying arm of a shovel excavator is so arranged a projection, that when the shovel is operating at a desired depth, the projection interrupts a collimated beam of electromagnetic radiation directed parallel to the desired depth level to cause a signalling means to provide a signal that the beam has been interrupted. The beam may be a collimated beam of light or a short wave radio beam. When a light beam is used'it is directed at a light responsive means controlling the signalling means, which may involve a radio link between, the light responsive and the cab of the excavator, to give a visual signal in the cab.
