A thermoplastic polymer strip 2, whilst in the viscous state on leaving an extruder 3, passes over a drum I and is impressed with two intersecting sets of grooves by ribbed rollers 4 and 5, and the granules thus formed in the strip are subsequently removed. The drum and rollers may be water cooled.
