Abstract

Derivatives of nucleic acids are produced by fermentation in the presence of 1-200 mg. of iron, 10 m g-15 mg. of manganese, 0.5-30 mg. of calcium, and 1-1000 m g. of zinc bivalent metal ions, each amount being per litre of fermentation medium. The derivatives specified are 51-inosinic acid, 51-guanylic acid, guanosine di- and tri-phosphates, 51-adenylic acid, and adenosine di- and tri-phosphates. Specified micro-organisms are Brevibacterium ammoniagenes, Micrococcus sodonensis, and Aspergillus sojae. The metal ions are either added in the form of their sulphate or hydrochloride, or are present as impurities in other components of the fermentation medium. The fermentation is carried out under aerobic conditions, at 20 DEG to 40 DEG C., and with a pH of 5 to 9. The examples include comparative tests using only three of the metal ions in the suitable concentrations, and also tests using amounts of Mn2+ which are outside the given limits.
