Abstract

1,111,218. Making metal strip for bearings. REPCO Ltd. 8 Feb., 1966 [17 Feb., 1965], No. 5531/66. Addition to 940,924. Heading B3A. In a modification of the process claimed in Specification 940,924 for making a composite metal strip, a two-phase alloy of aluminium and a metal of lower melting point than aluminium replaces the aluminium-tin bearing alloy. The roll bonding of the alloy to the bonding layer of aluminium alloy containing little or no tin and subsequent bonding to steel strip is carried out at any temperature below the melting point of the eutectic of aluminium and the other metal, preferably at ambient temperatures. The other metal may be, for example, lead, cadmium, bismuth or indium.
